Following mainstream news has become an exercise in futility – and frustration. With virtually all mainstream media outlets following a left-wing perspective, there’s hardly any news report out there that can be taken at face value. Since the world is organized in a structure of common sense and logic, i.e., in a “right-wing mould”, as it were, lefties find it hard, if not humanly impossible, to justify most of their beliefs. As a result, they have no choice but to resort to lying (“man-made global warming” being only one of very many examples).

Official crime rate falling? Think again
This may explain a few things:
Trayvon Martin’s death tragic, but the aftermath shines light on much worse crime
It is a sad fact of life that people will get killed. Whether it’s accidents or other people and their actions, people will die. Sometimes those deaths at the hands of other people are deliberate, at other times they’re accidental. What happened to Trayvon Martin in Florida, who was shot and killed by George Zimmerman, a neighbourhood watch captain, is a tragedy, but one that has happened before and will happen again.
Supreme Court seems to favour hate crimes
I recently shared my thoughts on a recent decision by the Supreme Court of Canada to reaffirm the Regina v Gladue verdict from 1998. For the uninitiated, let’s just say that this case law requires judges to give aboriginals more lenient sentences, even for the most heinous crimes.
Criminals with good sob story can go free in Canada
We’re fast approaching a state of affairs where anyone can commit crimes, even vicious and murderous ones, and still expect not to be punished. This is so not because society has arrived at some form of consensus, but because some individuals – judges – have said it must be so.
How about a Guantanamo for celebs?
Lindsay Lohan has blasted allegations she was involved in a hit-and-run outside a Hollywood nightclub in the early hours of Wednesday, insisting it’s all “a complete lie”.
My 2 cents: Some “celebs” are just asking for trouble, and obviously they can’t be allowed to roam the world without adult supervision. How about we build a “Guantanamo” just for them? Lindsay would have the honour of becoming the first resident.
Every morning at 6 a.m.: Special waterboarding jazzercise.
Let the punishment fit the crime, no matter what the cost
Only too often, we read about criminals being released too early or on bail who then go on to commit other, even more atrocious, crimes. Many people have been victimized, even killed, by those who, by all rights, should have been behind bars at the time they violated yet another victim.
Liberal senator wants more police but no punishment for criminals
What is it with Liberals and their love affair with criminals? Well, if the past is any indication, one has to say it must be that so many of them have a penchant for turning to criminal activity themselves (Liberal staffer Adam Carroll being merely the most recent example), which establishes a special bond between Liberals and (other) criminals.
Boisvenu, speaking his mind truthfully, reaps insult
My mind is boggled, so help me out, folks. Poll after poll confirms that Canadians are turned off by politics. In fact, only 15% still pay attention to political news. Hence, fewer and fewer voters bother to turn out on election day in federal, provincial and municipal elections. One thing most people criticize about politicians is that they won’t tell the truth. They accuse them of saying one thing, but believing something entirely else, which, surely, must mean that they have some sort of “hidden agenda”.
Ian Thomson getting ‘raped’ by Crown and system
Ian Thomson, a farmer in Ontario, was forced to make a tough decision in 2010: when a group of thugs attacked his farmhouse with firebombs and shouted, “Are you ready to die?”, Thomson got out his rifle and fired warning shots at his potential killers. They ran off, but Thomson was charged with firearm violations.
Some judges don’t care about delivering justice
Sam Gualtieri’s life has been destroyed. He may not be dead, but his brain has suffered irreparable and severe damage. This would be bad enough if it had happened as a result of an unfortunate accident, but knowing that a precious life has been ended – for that’s what it is, let’s not kid ourselves – by the criminal and vicious act of an individual makes it even worse.
Naming and shaming – best law and order approach there is
In an interesting article on criminal justice, which also refers to the Vancouver riots as an example, the National Post has looked at how Canadians are trying to “take back justice”.
Feel-good story: burglar is stabbed, his victim receives praise from judge
This is a truly feel-good story – just in time for Christmas, this really warms one’s cockles, doesn’t it? A woman who found herself in the middle of a violent home invasion, and facing the very distinct possibility that her son might have his fingers cut off, grabbed a knife and lunged for the intruder. He got away, but left his blood/DNA evidence behind. Since he was in the system, the police were able to track him down.
Tough on crime – or just ‘mean-spirited’?
Only the most deluded would argue that criminals in Canada have always been punished appropriately. Getting a slap on the wrist has been the norm even for some of the more violent criminals. I always tell the story of “Peter”, a guy in Toronto who would be in and out of jail every few months. His crimes weren’t minor by anyone’s standards, because, you see, one of his “specialties” was stabbing people. Yet even such violent crime was “punished” with just a few months in jail, when in fact he should have served years, been declared a dangerous and repeat offender, and been deported (he hailed from Sri Lanka). It is because of the “Peters” out there that we need a tough-on-crime approach, and the Harper government has provided that.
