AMP – don’t bother

Have you heard of AMP? This abbreviation stands for Accelerated Mobile Pages. This is supposed to speed up the loading of websites, particularly news sites, on mobile devices, while also streamlining the online-advertisement experience.

I recently experimented with AMP for some of my sites, and my verdict is quite straightforward: don’t bother. WordPress-hosted sites are already optimized for desktop and mobile devices. In fact, I found that my sites loaded more slowly during my AMP trial. After disabling AMP, my sites were back to the regular speed.

It may well be that AMP makes sense for sites hosted on different platforms, but as far as WordPress is concerned, you don’t have to worry about your site not loading fast enough.
