In this instalment of the Right versus Left series of columns, let us take a closer look at media bias and how lefties, as is their wont, claim for themselves certain rights and privileges that they regularly deny the right.
By now, everyone must have heard about the US administration’s most recent and most vicious war. No, not Iraq or Afghanistan, but Obama’s sortie against FOX News. If only lefties were as committed to fighting Islamist terrorists, the war on terror would soon be over.
It was the US president himself who called on his troops to fight, boycott and denigrate FOX News and its “right-wing bias” – as if representing one specific political view were some kind of disease.
Jacob Weisberg, who writes for Newsweek, has now gone even further, calling FOX News and its conservative bias “un-American”. The language Weisberg uses is inflammatory, and typical of lefties, when he writes, for example, that FOX News has been “charged with right-wing bias”, making it sound like a major crime has been committed.
It would be extremely funny if it were not so sad to see common sense and fairness get tossed out of the window like that. All media outlets are biased, but most skew to the left and even the radical, extreme left. Since leftist ideas, particularly the extreme sort, are often more dangerous than anything originating on the right (we should not forget that Hitler was a radical lefty), if there is a disease or crime to be prevented, it is the left-wing bias exhibited by the vast majority of media.
Speaking for one side in the ideological divide is not “un-American” or un-anything. Every newspaper, TV network, etc. has the right to choose sides. FOX News, in fact, needs to be encouraged, because conservative voices are rare in the putrid sea of left-wing media.
The reason why FOX News has the highest ratings in the country is twofold: Before FOX arrived on the scene, Americans had no voice of common sense and conservatism in the media. And now, as the radical lefties of the Democratic party keep heaping more and more debt on future generations of Americans, FOX News is the only sane voice that keeps reminding Americans of their heritage and all the things that once made America the greatest nation and power on this planet.
Weisberg also gets it wrong when he accuses FOX News of not only covering but also sponsoring the “anti-Obama tea parties”. The tea parties are not anti-Obama, but anti-Big Government as well as against criminal levels of government spending. It just so happens that the Obama administration is the main perpetrator of this crime.
One would think that Weisberg, given his profession and ethnic background, would be the last person to stoke hatred against an identifiable group of people. As a journalist and a Jew, he should know better than to spew such nonsense. His main concern should be with the freedom of press (now on the endangered list thanks to the current administration in Washington, D.C.), instead of doing his utmost to silence “dissenters”.
Has Weisberg forgotten that his heroine, Nancy Pelosi, encouraged “disruptors” just a few years ago? When in opposition, Pelosi felt it was necessary to not only speak up against the (Republican) government, but to do so vociferously and even violently. Such words coming from a (radical) lefty like Pelosi are always dangerous, because lefties, unlike right-wingers, are invariably more prone and more likely to follow through on their threats of violence.
FOX News, and other common-sense thinkers in the media, are merely trying to give a voice to the disenfranchised and future generations of Americans who will live in Zimbabwean conditions unless someone puts an immediate stop to the insanity that has come to characterize the current US administration.
Calling for a boycott of certain media is despicable, and Weisberg should be ashamed of himself. Bias in itself is not a bad thing. As a matter of fact, media and news outlets should represent the full spectrum of political ideas. Those who have not lost their brain yet will not much care for the viewpoints expressed by MSNBC, but they will never say that MSNBC should be shut down or boycotted because of its (radical left-wing) bias. Reasonable people take a “live and let live” attitude. Unreasonable, foaming-at-the-mouth people, however, like Weisberg, are fascists who are motivated by hatred and a desire to impose their views on the rest of society.
If there is a group of people who are “un-American”, it is people like Jacob Weisberg and the current administration.
This blog is an example of newmedia going to the far left.
