How to destroy an airline? Bring in the unions
This is nothing short of insane:
The new president of the Canadian Auto Workers union has set his sights on WestJet Airlines Ltd., saying the 12-year-old carrier is ripe for labour certification. Ken Lewenza, who took over as CAW boss from Buzz Hargrove this week, said yesterday that WestJet employees would be better off with a strong union voice rather than the current Pro-Active Communication Team (PACT), a non-union group that represents 6,300 workers. There are another 1,000 non-PACT staff.
This would be one surefire way of destroying the only successful airline left. Westjet staff are shareholders in their company, and there is absolutely no need to bring the mob, the CAW, in there. One of the main reasons why Westjet is doing much better than other airlines, particularly in these difficult times, is that the mob has not had its tentacles inside the company. Unions are an anachronism and should be all closed down.
