Once bitten, twice shy

The Conservative government is repeatedly faulted for its communication policy – or lack thereof. Most recent example: an environmental report that the (biased) media feel should have been announced with a big fanfare.

Now, why should the government spend a lot of tax dollars unnecessarily on making a big fuss about a report? Canadians are Internet-savvy people. If they want information, surely they can find it themselves. They don't have to be force-fed every single paper or report.

That's called self-reliance and taking responsibility for one's own actions.

Besides, it's hard to criticize the Conservatives for keeping a low profile. If you were faced with hostile media that twist every word you say, wouldn't you just stop communicating too?

Essentially, this is how it works with the media in Canada and their relationship with the Conservative Party:

Conservatives say:

The sky is blue.

Biased media reply:

Liar, liar! Hidden agenda!

Conservatives say:

Ottawa is the capital of Canada.

Biased media reply:

Liar, liar! Hidden agenda!

Conservatives say:

Canada is the second largest country in the world in terms of land mass.

Biased media reply:

Liar, liar! Hidden agenda! Conservatives kiss up to U.S. Republicans and George Bush!
